The Ghetto

Just under 3 weeks and some new news.

We have a Ghetto House for the weekend. Thanks To Colleen Collins Caponi (’78) for securing 1930 Trinity for us.

We need some help from everyone as the house is unfurnished and we need some chairs. So if you are driving or live close can you throw a few camp chairs or folding chairs in your car and bring them so we have a place to sit. Some sisters have volunteered already to bring ice chests and we have a few fold-up tables and a stereo. Just need chairs. Thanks.

1962 – JFK was President and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson premiered; Target and K-Mart opened their 1st stores; Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best as the drummer for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones became a band; Gregory Peck won the Oscar for To Kill A Mockingbird and Marilyn Monroe dies; Walter Cronkite becomes the anchorman of the CBS Evening News and the first James Bond movie premiers; It was the inaugural season for the NY Mets  (they lost a recording setting 120 games); And the Alpha Chapter of Lambda Lambda Lambda Sorority is founded at the University of Dayton.

Hope to see all you Tri-Lambda Sisters at the 50th reunion of the founding of our sorority (June 8th-10th). Registration is open. Please sign up for the SIG event (2-4 on Saturday afternoon) and the Porch Party (7-11 on Saturday evening).

Come to the Dayton Marriott (Patterson Street) on Friday afternoon and have a drink with the gang before heading off to your class party or dinner out with friends. See you at Flanagans or Tim’s or Milano’s throughout the weekend.

Hey Reunion Attendees.   Need a new Tri-Lamb T-Shirt.

Roni Kane Heaning is placing an order this Friday so you need to act fast. A light blue shirt with sewn on twill lambda letters. Price is approximately $20-$25 (the more we order, the cheaper they will be).

They will be available for pick-up on Reunion weekend in June. If interested please e-mail Roni by Thursday night April 26th

At the end of this post you will find ‘pictures’ of the mailer that arrived from UD. You may not have received one if you are not part of the ‘official’ graduation years.

Registration begins next Monday at Noon (EDT). The noon hour is VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SECURE ON-CAMPUS HOUSING. Last year the on campus housing sold out in about 8-9 minutes. So, make sure you are on-line and ready to register at noon!

For those not trying to get campus housing, please pre-register by May 13th. It will save you 5% and some of the functions do have limited space.

HOTELS – I have heard from a few sisters that they booked a room and may not be able to come. Before you cancel it, please check in here and we’ll try to get you in touch with a sister who is still looking for a room. No promises, but we’ll do our best. (e-mail

FOLLOW THIS BLOG  Are you following the blog? On the right side of the home page is a button that says ‘Follow Blog via e-mail’. Make sure you sign-up and you will automatically get the updates. Also add to your address books. I’ve heard that some sisters found e-mail from us in their spam folder.

REUNION SCHEDULE – Right now it remains the same. However as we get closer to the event, there may be little tweaks, so check this page.

Friday – Stop by the Union and pick up your registration packet (after 12 and before 6)

Friday Afternoon- casual meet-up @ Sharkeys’s poolside (Dayton Marriott) after 4PM

Friday Night – Class parties or on your own. After party  11pm (Flanagans OR Ghetto House)

Saturday (2:00pm) – Tri-Lambda Tent Party on campus (UD paid event $5)           Wear your sorority colors!

Saturday Night (7-11pm)  – Porch Party (UD paid event $35)  After party (TBD or Ghetto House)

Sunday Morning – Stop by Marriott Restaurant to say goodbye. Some are heading to campus for Mass (10am)
