The Ghetto

Just under 3 weeks and some new news.

We have a Ghetto House for the weekend. Thanks To Colleen Collins Caponi (’78) for securing 1930 Trinity for us.

We need some help from everyone as the house is unfurnished and we need some chairs. So if you are driving or live close can you throw a few camp chairs or folding chairs in your car and bring them so we have a place to sit. Some sisters have volunteered already to bring ice chests and we have a few fold-up tables and a stereo. Just need chairs. Thanks.

1962 – JFK was President and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson premiered; Target and K-Mart opened their 1st stores; Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best as the drummer for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones became a band; Gregory Peck won the Oscar for To Kill A Mockingbird and Marilyn Monroe dies; Walter Cronkite becomes the anchorman of the CBS Evening News and the first James Bond movie premiers; It was the inaugural season for the NY Mets  (they lost a recording setting 120 games); And the Alpha Chapter of Lambda Lambda Lambda Sorority is founded at the University of Dayton.

Hope to see all you Tri-Lambda Sisters at the 50th reunion of the founding of our sorority (June 8th-10th). Registration is open. Please sign up for the SIG event (2-4 on Saturday afternoon) and the Porch Party (7-11 on Saturday evening).

Come to the Dayton Marriott (Patterson Street) on Friday afternoon and have a drink with the gang before heading off to your class party or dinner out with friends. See you at Flanagans or Tim’s or Milano’s throughout the weekend.

NEED A NEW T-SHIRT FOR REUNION

Hey Reunion Attendees.   Need a new Tri-Lamb T-Shirt.

Roni Kane Heaning is placing an order this Friday so you need to act fast. A light blue shirt with sewn on twill lambda letters. Price is approximately $20-$25 (the more we order, the cheaper they will be).

They will be available for pick-up on Reunion weekend in June. If interested please e-mail Roni by Thursday night April 26th

REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 16TH

At the end of this post you will find ‘pictures’ of the mailer that arrived from UD. You may not have received one if you are not part of the ‘official’ graduation years.

Registration begins next Monday at Noon (EDT). The noon hour is VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SECURE ON-CAMPUS HOUSING. Last year the on campus housing sold out in about 8-9 minutes. So, make sure you are on-line and ready to register at noon!

For those not trying to get campus housing, please pre-register by May 13th. It will save you 5% and some of the functions do have limited space.

HOTELS - I have heard from a few sisters that they booked a room and may not be able to come. Before you cancel it, please check in here and we’ll try to get you in touch with a sister who is still looking for a room. No promises, but we’ll do our best. (e-mail trilambsud@gmail.com)

Saturday (2:00pm) – Tri-Lambda Tent Party on campus (UD paid event $5)           Wear your sorority colors!

Sunday Morning – Stop by Marriott Restaurant to say goodbye. Some are heading to campus for Mass (10am)

100 DAYS

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN

Lots of activity, as people are making their airline reservations, finalizing their rooms and roommates, and digging through their photo albums and boxes of Tri-Lambda memories.

I found my Paddle, Senior Farewell plaque, Pledge Book and Tri-Lamb ring.

There’s a lot of activity on Facebook and the web from the classes of 1977 and 1987.

Updates

As the search continues to locate some of our missing sisters, we wanted to post the proposed schedule of events.
This weekend has been designed to be very informal, a time for each of us to have plenty of our own time to explore campus (especially if you haven’t been there in awhile), reconnect with old friends, and meet other Tri-Lambda Sisters possibly for the first time.

As an added bonus to the weekend, Delta Tau Nu fraternity, Chi Sigma Alpha fraternity and the TKE’s will also be having re-unions. Many of you have asked about renting a ghetto house and we have a sister working on that. However we will not know if this is possible until sometime in April. If, in the meantime, any of you have connections to do that, please let us know.

Any other suggestions for the weekend would be greatly appreciated.

This is a paid event ($35) and pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

The mailing for Alumni Weekend will go out in march. If you ARE NOT a graduate of the official reunion years you will not automatically receive a mailing. However, the info will be on the Dayton website. Pre-registration is strongly suggested for the Porch party as well as the Tri-Lamb party, but they will allow you to pay ‘at the door’.

Rooms are still available at the Courtyard as well as Crowne Plaza (newly remodeled) and they are providing bus service to and from campus.

It would be very helpful to begin to ‘guesstimate’ how many are actually coming, so please reply here and let everyone know.
